M&J Electric was founded in 1984 by its president, Michael Thurber as a family-owned partnership. In 1997 the company was incorporated as MD Thurber Inc., dba M&J Electric. M&J Electric has on average approximately 20 employees and is a certified small business. M&J Electric uses only licensed electricians and indentured apprentices who are enrolled in a random drug testing program. M&J Electric has put a major emphasis in their safety program by adapting a new Injury & Illness Prevention Plan, which includes training the majority of their employees in the OSHA 30 class. Due to a very low incident rate and a firm safety program, MD Thurber Inc., dba M&J Electric is able to achieve a low EMR.

     M&J Electric has successfully constructed large and small commercial and industrial projects in Siskiyou, Shasta, and Tehama Counties, including commercial buildings, schools, hospitals, co-generation, water, wastewater, mining and correctional institutions. M&J Electric had two separate construction divisions, Commercial and Industrial, but now focuses on mostly commercial projects they are invited to bid on.

     M&J Electric has about a dozen, varying commercial electrical projects in progress at one time. Because M&J Electric focuses mainly on Commercial Projects, they do not provide residential electrical work and are moving away from industrial developments as well.
